RESIDENTIAL IMPROVEMENTS

Improving the energy efficiency of residential buildings makes an immediate impact both financially and environmentally. Relatively simple and economical improvements can be made to homes that lead to lower ownership costs and greater standards of living. For residential properties, the following energy improvements are eligible through the Yucaipa Energy Independence Program:

  • Attic and wall insulation

  • Attic fans

  • Cool roof systems

  • Evaporative coolers

  • Geothermal exchange heat pumps

  • Home Sealing

  • HVAC systems*

  • Irrigation sensors

  • Light fixtures (no bulb-only retrofits)

  • Natural gas storage water heaters

  • Pool equipment**

  • Reflective insulation or radiant barriers

  • Reflective roofs and coatings

  • Solar tubes

  • Tankless water heaters

  • Weather stripping

  • Window filming

  • Windows, doors, skylights

*Including home energy management control systems, whole house fan systems, duct sealing, duct
installations **Including pool circulating pumps and natural gas pool heaters

Solar equipment is another category of improvements that can be funded by the Yucaipa Energy Improvement Program. These types of improvements include photovoltaic equipment and solar thermal installations. Solar thermal equipment must be rated by the Solar Rating Certification Council (SRCC). Solar equipment that is eligible for residential, commercial and industrial properties include:

  • Emerging solar technologies, including nano/thin film photovoltaic systems and high intensity (parabolic) solar panels

  • Photovoltaic systems (electricity)

- Battery back-up systems will be allowed

- Funding for off-grid systems will be allowed

- Photovoltaic systems can be sized to accommodate plug-in electric    vehicles

  • Solar thermal systems (hot water)

  • Solar thermal systems (pool heating)

Custom measures that do not fall into either of the other two categories may also be included. These projects may involve large-scale industrial or commercial energy efficiency improvement projects, as well as more complex and cutting-edge energy management solutions and emerging technologies. Custom measures will be funded only if sufficient proof of energy savings is provided to EIP Staff. The EIP Administrator must approve the custom measure according to the specific performance requirements prior to the funding of a custom measure. Please contact the EIP admin for more information.
