The All American City Competition, 2011

The National Civic League recognizes ten communities each year for outstanding civic accomplishments. To win, each community must demonstrate innovation, inclusiveness, civic engagement, and cross sector collaboration by describing successful efforts to address pressing local challenges. Yucaipa was selected as one of the finalists for the 2011 All American City Award and in June attended the competition in Kansas City.

Yucaipa Councilwoman Diane Smith, City staff members Paul Toomey and Fermin Preciado, and four members of the Yucaipa Youth Advisory Council - Hannah Kendrick, Sean McLeod, Jaelin Palmer, and Ian Ott - were selected to represent the City in the competition. In addition to the presentation in front of the judges, the activities over the four-day event include community expo, talent show, All American Youth selection, and overall community sharing and interaction. Although Yucaipa was not selected as one of the 10 All American Cities, it was an honor to be one of the 25 cities to become a finalist.
